Choosing an area to live in Qatar within close proximity of place of work is essential as traffic peaks seem to last all day and travel time becomes very time consuming.

Qatar - The Pearl

Qatar The Pearl Residential Area

The Pearl covers 985 acres of reclaimed land off the coast of Doha's West Bay. The Pearl is a trendy and lively area, many high-end apartment buildings, luxury townhouses, luxury shops and 5 star restaurants. The developers like to call it "Riviera Arabia".

The focal point is the Arabian Piazza, an exotic destination with an international blend of chic retail and dining. From luxury vehicle dealerships and bespoke jewellers to fresh-from-the-catwalk designer wear, this mall showcases the very finest shopping experience in the finest of settings.

The festive centre of Porto Arabia is Ras Croisette, complete with late-night restaurants and lounges for year-round entertainment. This area, with its world-class clubs and discerning crowd, is not just the nightlife hub of The Pearl-Qatar, but also for the immediate region.

At the very heart of Porto Arabia lies the Marsa Arabia island. Accessed via a causeway, this picturesque 'island-within-an-island' will feature an exclusive Four Seasons hotel serving Qatar's business and leisure travellers.

Access to Pearl is good, 2 double lane roads both ways.

Qatar - West Bay

Qatar West Bay Residential Area

West Bay is home to many foreign embassies in Qatar. Families with high earn incomes can be found here living in large villas and high rise apartments. There is a City Centre Mall with a lot of top brand shops, cinema, food court, bowling area, ice rink for entertainment and a very large Carrefour hypermarket.

Newton International school is close by and traffic is not too bad here.


Qatar - Al Waab

Qatar Villagio Mall

Very popular with families due to the Villagio Mall and Aspire Park. Villagio Mall (see photo above) is located between the Hyatt Plaza and Sport City on Al Waab Street. Villagio has an Italian theme, there is a small canal running through the mall and you can even get in a gondola.

Accommodation options in Al Waab mainly consists of family compound accommodation with all amenities included and some stand alone villas in the older sections of the area.

The city is still under construction and plans to be a city within a city with many shops, restaurants, parks and accommodation for 8000 people in over 2000 homes.

The American School of Doha is based here and Al Waab has easy access to the major routes in the city.


Qatar - Al Sadd

Busy commercial district with many shops, cafes and local businesses, more suitable for single people or couples without children. Traffic tends to be very busy, especially around Al Mirqab Street. There are a few older malls like Centre Point and Royal Plaza.

Accommodation options in Al Sadd are mainly apartments and a few older compounds.


Qatar - Madinat Khalifa

A popular area with families because of the many International schools based here such as Compass School, International School of London, The Canadian School and the Doha English Speaking School DESS. Accommodation is a mix of stand alone villas and compounds like the very popular Riviera Gardens. They offer a fine selection of luxury villas and personal service to those seeking long term and short term rentals and leasing. Expect to pay around 16000 QR unfurnished per month for a three bedroom villa. Madinat Khalifa is close to Landmark Mall with a Carrefour hypermarket, Lulu Hypermarket is based there as well.


Qatar - Old Airport Area

One of the older areas in Doha, within close proximity to the airport although not under the flight path. There are busy roads and there is little green space, advantage however is that accommodation prices are lower. There are some compounds such as La Mirage and Al Fardan and stand stand alone villas in this area. Newton Secondary School is based close by.

Adjacent to the Old Airport Area is Al Thumama, Doha. Very popular with Expats and again close to many schools and nurseries.


Qatar - Abu Hamour / Mamoura / Ain Khalid

Very popular amongst Expats due to the many new compounds and stand alone villa’s in this area and prices for rent or sale are lower than in other parts of town. You are close to several international schools such as Doha College, Doha British School, Al Jazeera Academy and Park House English School, which also makes this a popular area for teachers to settle. There is a fish, vegetable and plant souq close by as well as the the Safari Mall and a Carrefour hypermarket.


Qatar - Al Wakra

Qatar Al WAkra

Located on the coast, about a ten minutes drive from the Airport, in the outskirts of Doha. The place has a very relaxed feel with undeveloped beaches and a small community. Accommodation is usually lived in by single men with lower incomes and the schools are all independent, not a suitable area to live as an expat family.
